Disclosure Statement – Echo Financial Advisors Ltd. (FSP 1001566)

Echo Financial Advisors Ltd (FSP 1001566) is a licensed Financial Advice Provider under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 (FMC Act). We are regulated by the Financial Markets Authority (FMA). We provide financial advice to New Zealand clients.

Nature and Scope of Advice

Echo Financial Advisors provides advice on investment-related financial products, including:

  • Managed funds & ETFs, KiwiSaver, listed equity securities, fixed income, and cash/term-deposit vehicles (including PIE cash/notice-saver structures).
  • Retirement and investment planning, portfolio construction, risk management, and ongoing portfolio monitoring.
  • Financial coaching.

We do not provide mortgage or insurance advice and do not operate a DIMS. Where we discuss third-party products (e.g., a DIMS provider), this is advice about a product only, any implementation is non-discretionary and requires your explicit approval for each transaction.

How we work

We provide tailored investment recommendations designed to align with your goals, timeframe, and risk tolerance. Before any action is taken, we will always discuss our recommendations with you and seek your confirmation. Once you provide approval (by email or signed instruction), we will arrange for execution through the appropriate platform or product provider. This ensures you remain in full control of every decision, with a clear record of your consent.

Risks

All investments involve risk. Investment values and returns can go up or down, and past performance does not guarantee future results.

We use a combination of research tools, modelling software, and analytical systems (including AI-enhanced analysis) to support the advice we provide. However, all advice is reviewed, approved, and delivered by a licensed human financial adviser. No tool or model can guarantee performance.

Our Fees

We are a fee-only adviser. We do not accept commissions, soft-dollar incentives, or volume targets.

Depending on the nature and scope of work, our fees may include:

  • Initial or project-based fees for preparing an investment plan or retirement analysis.
  • Ongoing service fees for portfolio monitoring and review, usually expressed as a percentage of assets under management (with a minimum annual charge).
  • Ad-hoc or hourly fees for specific advice outside of a standard engagement.
  • Administration or set-up charges, if required, before commencing services.

The exact amount, method of calculation, and payment terms will be agreed with you in writing before services commence and confirmed in your Scope of Engagement or Scope of Works documentation. Third-party costs (brokerage, product, exchange fees) are charged by providers and will be disclosed separately where relevant.

Ongoing portfolio management:

  • Portfolios under $250,000: Minimum annual fee of NZD $2,500
  • Portfolios $250,000 – $1,000,000: 1.5% of assets under management
  • Portfolios over $1,000,000: 1.0% of assets under management

Conflicts of Interest & How We Manage Them

Echo Financial Advisors Ltd (“Echo”) operates on a fee-only basis. We do not accept commissions, incentives, or other forms of remuneration from product providers. At present, we also do not receive any non-monetary benefits such as training, research, or educational resources from providers.

Future Conflicts

If at any time Echo were to receive non-monetary support (such as training, research access, or educational materials) or any other benefit that could reasonably be perceived as a conflict of interest, we will:

  • Disclose the nature and source of the benefit to you in writing;
  • Document the potential impact on our advice; and
  • Take all reasonable steps to ensure that your interests are placed first.

Internal Policies

Echo maintains internal policies and procedures designed to identify, disclose, and manage any actual or perceived conflicts of interest. We are trained to act in your best interests at all times and are required to avoid or mitigate conflicts where possible.

Code and Legal Duties

In line with the Code of Professional Conduct for Financial Advice Services and the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013, Echo is required to:

  • Give priority to your interests where conflicts may arise;
  • Ensure advice is not materially influenced by provider relationships;
  • Disclose any conflict that could reasonably be expected to materially influence the advice we provide.

Your information will be stored securely, used only for the purposes agreed with you, and disclosed to third parties only with your consent or where required by law. We comply fully with the Privacy Act 2020.

Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT)

As a licensed Financial Advice Provider, we are required under the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009 to verify your identity, confirm your address, and in some cases verify the source of your funds or wealth. We may also be required to monitor transactions and report suspicious activity to the relevant authorities. These steps are a legal requirement for all clients.

Record-keeping obligations

We are required under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 and related regulations to retain all records of the financial advice we provide, including your instructions, our recommendations, and any supporting documents, for at least seven years.
